Rickard’s started as a family butchery in 1960. Three generations later, there’s rather less butchery and a LOT more biltong – made using locally sourced Cornish beef, with plenty of South African food and groceries to discover alongside it.
About Rickard’s Biltong
Biltong wasn’t actually part of the original plan.
Rickard’s began making it 14 years ago after customers suggested they give it a try. It went so well that four years ago they stopped the butchery side of the business altogether to focus on biltong.
Today, they make beef biltong, droewors and chilli bites using locally sourced Cornish beef, with a wide range of biltong flavours to discover. You’ll also find imported South African groceries, including sweets, chutneys, sauces, spices and soft drinks.
Quite a journey from the family butchery that started it all.
What to look out for at Truro Christmas Market
Got a meat lover on your Christmas list? Rickard’s new Biltong Crates let you choose the bags and flavours that go inside, so you can put together a selection with them in mind.
There’s new Teriyaki biltong, too. Rickard’s description? “Extremely moreish.”
Consider us warned.
Good to know
What is biltong?
It’s a South African way of preserving meat. If you’ve never tried it before, Rickard’s describes it as similar to jerky – “but better!”
